Top FIFA World Cup Finalists

Today, toptenlistingz, presents a flourishing analysis on FIFA World Cup finalists. The FIFA World Cup is the most prestigious international association football tournament, contested between thirty-two (32) senior men’s national teams. The competition has been conducted by the Federation International Football Association (FIFA) once every four years. Since its inception, 21 tournaments were conducted successfully.

The inaugural tournament was conducted in 1930 which was won by Uruguay. The most recent champion is France who won its second title in 2018. Brazil has won five titles and become the most title holder nation in the history of the FIFA World Cup.

The FIFA World Cup is the most followed sporting event and most widely viewed event in the world after Summer Olympics. It has been estimated that during the entire event in 2018, 3.572 billion people watched the tournament which is the third-highest viewership in the history of sporting events. It has also been estimated that during the event, more than three million people attended the games physically (more than forty-seven thousand per match).

10. Hungary and Czech Republic

Toptenlistingz ranked Hungary and Czech Republic tenth in the list of FIFA World Cup finalists. In their nine appearances in FIFA World Cups Hungarian national men’s team becomes two-time Runners-up in 1938 and as well as in 1954 FIFA World Cups. The Czech Republic also becomes two times Runners-up in 1934 and as well in the 1964 FIFA World Cup. Due to their best performances in the above said FIFA World Cups, both nations ranked tenth in this list.

9. Netherlands

Netherlands national men’s team took ninth place in the list of FIFA World Cup finalists due to their best performances in the 1974, 1978 and 2010 FIFA World Cups where they were got the second spot. They also stood third and fourth place in the 2014 and 1998 FIFA World Cups, respectively.

8. Spain

Spanish men’s national team ranked eighth by the toptenlistingz due to their best performance in the 2010 FIFA World Cup where they were crowned as World Champion. They also stood fourth in the 1950 FIFA World Cup. Spanish men’s national team is the second team in the world who won 3 times FIFA Fair Play Trophy award in 2006, 2010 and 2018 FIFA World Cups.

7. England

English national men’s team ranked seventh in the list of FIFA World Cup finalists due to their excellent performance in the 1966 FIFA World Cup where they were crowned as World Champion. Since 1950, they have participated in 15 tournaments and showed their expertise in 3 tournaments. They have got first place in 1966 and stood fourth place two times in the 1990 & 2018 FIFA World Cups. They have also won FIFA Fair Play Trophy award two times in 1990 and 1998 FIFA World Cup.

6. Uruguay

After winning two FIFA World Cups Uruguay’s national men’s team ranked sixth in the list of FIFA World Cup finalists. They have participated in 13 FIFA World Cups including the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930 where they were crowned as World Champion. They have also won the 1950 FIFA World Cup. They have stood fourth-place 3 times in 1954, 1970 and 2010 FIFA World Cups.

5. France

Uruguay and France won the FIFA World Cup two times, but due to the Runners-up performance by France in 2006, France got fifth place in the list of FIFA World Cup finalists. The French national men’s team won the FIFA World Cups in 1998 and the last FIFA World Cup in 2018. In their 15 appearances since the inaugural tournament, they have also got the second spot in the 2006 FIFA World Cup, third spot in 1958 & 1986 FIFA World Cups, and fourth place in the 1982 FIFA World Cup. They have also won FIFA Fair Play Trophy award in the 1998 FIFA World Cup.

4. Argentina

Argentina’s national men’s team also won the FIFA World Cup two times, but due to their Runners-up performance in 1930, 1990 and 2014 FIFA World Cups, toptenlistingz decided to rank them fourth in the list of FIFA World Cup finalists. They have won the FIFA World Cup in 1978 and in 1986. Since the inaugural tournament in 1930, they have appeared in 17 tournaments. They have also won FIFA Fair Play Trophy award in the 1978 FIFA World Cup.

3. Italy

Italian men’s national team ranked third in the list of FIFA World Cup finalists, due to their best performance in 1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006 FIFA World Cups, where they were crowned as World Champion. In their 18 appearances in FIFA World Cups, they have won 4 FIFA World Cup in 1934, 1938, 1982, 2006, secured Runners-up in 1970, 1994, got third place in 1990 and got fourth place in 1978 FIFA World Cup.

2. Germany

The second most crowned team in the list of FIFA World Cup finalists is the German men’s national team. They have won a total of 4 FIFA World Cup trophies in 1954, 1974, 1990 and 2014. In their 19 appearances in FIFA World Cup, they have stood the second spot in the 1966, 1982, 1986, 2002 FIFA World Cups, third in 1934, 1970, 2006, 2010 and got fourth place in the 1958 FIFA World Cup tournament. The German men’s national team also got FIFA Fair Play Trophy in the 1974 FIFA World Cup. Germany and Italy won the FIFA World Cup 4 times but due to 4 times, Runners-up performance in FIFA World Cups Germany got the second spot in this list.

1. Brazil

The most prolific nation in the history of the FIFA World Cup is Brazil. Brazilian men’s national team have won the FIFA World Cup 5 times in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and in 2002. Since the inaugural tournament in 1930, they appeared in 21 FIFA World Cup tournaments. They have also stood Runners-up in 1950, 1998 FIFA World Cups, secured third place in 1938, 1978 and fourth place in 1974 and 2014 FIFA World Cup. Brazilian men’s national team is the only team in the world who won 4 FIFA Fair Play Trophy award in 1982, 1986, 1994 and 2006 FIFA World Cups.
